What makes a good cleaning service?

Lets get in to more of the detail now on each one of the questions from above and in the video.

How long have you been in business?

The reason why this is an important question is you never want your house to be first! Truth is anyone can say they are a professional house cleaner but the best cleaning companies have been doing this for years. This experience gives the cleaning companies proven systems, detailed training for the cleaners and a plenty of time to create a set of best practices and procedures.

As an example, Magnolia Cleaning Service of Orlando has been operational for 13 years. Our sister market Magnolia Cleaning Service of Tampa has been providing professional house cleaning for 4 years. All of the lessons we learned over the years in Orlando are now fully adopted in Tampa.

Do you have references?

Getting references from the house cleaning services you are considering is really important. Be sure to ask for a few so and be sure to call them! You would be surprised as to how many people ask for references but never call them.

If you don’t want to ask for references then be sure to look over the cleaning company’s reviews. Look on Google or Facebook as generally those reviews are more legitimate. Lastly, be sure to look at the highest rated reviews and also sort by the worst rating. Pay attention to how the cleaning service responded to the poor review.

The best cleaning services can have a couple bad reviews as you simply cannot make everyone happy. The key is in their response… Was the company’s response professional and honest or was it confrontational and not accepting of the feedback?

Are you insured?

Do not ever allow any cleaning company or home service provider to come in to your home uninsured. Not having proper insurance and bonding is the easiest way for a cheap cleaning service to save money. After all, they have to cut corners somewhere to be the cheapest! The problem though is this money saved could easily be money spent by you if something goes wrong.

Insurance companies such as Progressive offer Cleaning Insurance. The larger point is NEVER hire a house cleaning service that is not insured. If you do, you personally are liable for any damage, injury or other that happens. In this day and age of lawsuits never hire a house cleaning service who is not properly insured and bonded.

What does the cleaning include?

Remember, you are coming in to this with some assumptions of your own. Your understanding these assumptions is important. Make a list beforehand on what your “must haves” are for what should be completed each cleaning. Then, work on a couple points for items that would be nice to have or rotational cleaning tasks that you would like to have for your home.

Now, compare your list with each list for the cleaning companies you are considering. Know that there are Standard and Deep Cleans that the professional house cleaning services in your area may offer. Your knowing the difference between the two is important. If you would like to understand this more you can read through this article on the Difference between a Standard and a Deep Cleaning.

Additionally. provide feedback to the cleaning service each time after they complete your cleaning. Having consistent, fair and honest feedback is important so the cleaners know exactly what your expectations are of them.

What is your cancellation policy?

There is not a “best” answer for this question. Rather, it is important that you know what the steps are for you to either reschedule or cancel altogether your service.

Some companies will ask for this to be in writing or communicated in a certain manner. Ultimately, it is important for you to know what the time frame and what manner you need to cancel services within if a situation arises for you to do so.

Do I have to sign a contract or commit a certain number of cleanings?

This is a really important question and depending on the cleaning company you are speaking with the answer will be “yes”!

Typically the Franchise Cleaning Companies require either a contract for a certain number of cleanings or a mandatory Deep Cleaning on the first cleaning for your home. The truth is many homes do need more time on the first cleaning. That said, forcing this in some type of contract vs approaching your homes cleaning in a reasonable is common place amongst the Cleaning Franchise and is not necessary more times then not.

How much will it cost to clean my home?

It may sounds weird that this is the last question but we put it here for a reason. The truth is you will always get what you pay for. It makes no sense cutting costs with a cleaning service or any other provider of home services. In fact, there are plenty of horror stories of families who went with the cheapest options and paid dearly with damaged floors, sinks or worse.

Having run a professional cleaning service in Orlando and cleaning service in Tampa Florida for 15 years, I can assure you that cheap cleaning companies are a dime a dozen.

For example, a client of our now used a previous company that was 25% cheaper then our services. This cleaning person left permanent stains on their sink fixtures and disappeared in to the sunset.

How can I save money hiring a Cleaning Service?

The easiest way to save money while also getting a professional cleaning is to space out your cleanings say to Monthly Cleanings vs Bi Weekly.

Finding a professional cleaning service is a bit like finding a good mechanic. Ask your friends, get references and trust your gut. If it sounds too good to be true then it is.
